We Too Are Art

A WONDERFUL PLACE TO CREATE

Welcome to the place where you are embraced! Here at We Too Are Art, we are built on the idea that you are art, from the kinks, or lack thereof, to the imperfections in your smile. Everything you touch, consume, create is art.

Thank you for being you!

PURPOSE

Artistry is a multifaceted and beautiful thing, often utilized by Black folks throughout time as a metric of protest, a means of achieving serenity, and acknowledging history and the power and hope of our future. When Black children are only taught art through the scope of white historical narratives, we learn art in ways that are not true to our culture and disable our proximity to what we can achieve. We argue that art is not simply painting or photography, but research, gardening, sewing, cooking, and that for Black women, artistry is inherent to our existence. The purpose of this is to deconstruct and decolonize the notion of art and instead affirm artistry as an accessible practice or epistemology for these Black girls, asserting that all that they do can serve as art.
